I am happy to announce that I was one of four recipients for the July Artist Accelerator Grant from the Arts Commission! A CASH award for just about anything an artist would want/need to pursue their craft, in my case some engraving wheels for my lathe!
I bought this lathe in 2012. It is an old 'Sommer and Macha' lathe; solid cast iron and battleship grey. This beast came out of a basement in Chicago and was transported to Toledo along with several other pieces of large cold working equipment. At the time, I wasn't even sure if it ran and the shaft and bearings needed an update. A few years later I had a new shaft turned and got some new bearings. I just received notice that I will be participating in the Spring Edition of Handmade Toledo's Maker's Mart! This is an awesome, one day, bonanza of an arts/crafts show. It runs from 10am-8pm and will be jam-packed with some of the coolest, hippest, tastiest craft vendors from Northwest Ohio and beyond! Make sure you come out May 7 (just before Mother's Day for all you last minute gifters) and buy local!
April 1 is going to be a busy day! I will also be featured in the G9 (Group of 9) show at the Hudson Gallery in downtown Sylvania. This will be an amazing group show, with lots of great work from: Biz Droulliard -- Shannon Mossing -- Carrie Day -- Brien Strancar -- Ian Welch -- Mary Dunkin -- Natalie Lanese -- Matthew Cook -- Stephen Williams. I will be showing more new pieces completed last fall/winter when I was away on residency. This show runs for the month of April and maybe longer. Opening reception is April 1, from 6-8pm during the new Red Bird Arts District's Frist Friday Art Walk.
